You may notice small math slips coming home that say ADD at the top. The students work on these for bell work when they enter in the morning. We review and correct these together. The students use a blue correcting pencil to correct their answers and write in answers to those problems they did not or could not complete on their own. I do not place a grade on these as they are meant as extra morning math PRACTICE.
For any graded work, used for assessment, you will notice a circled 1, 2, or 3 at the top. 1 means meeting objective, 2 means progressing towards objective, and 3 means experiencing difficulty with objective.
For daily PRACTICE work I will either write OK to show that I have reviewed the paper or I will use a check minus, check, or check plus symbol at the top to indicate progression. Beginning this week, spelling and math homework will usually be reviewed and corrected together with students using the blue correcting pencils. In this way, students have an opportunity to see where and why they made mistakes.
Please note:
If your child goes to Mrs. Carmien or Mrs. Bommarito for math or language arts, I am still assigning the general education spelling and math homework to him/her on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am doing this so your child can have the exposure to third grade level material and to help instill homework responsibility. For this reason your child will most likely need assistance in completing the assignments. If your child becomes completely frustrated with a certain problem even with help, please skip that problem. I am not, however, expecting Mrs. Carmien's language arts students or Mrs. Bommarito's Read 180 students to take the regular weekly spelling test because they may have a spelling list from those classrooms.
